Hoi Anh was one of our favorite places. It is an old city with Chinese and some French influence. As you can see it is very beautiful.

The patio of the Cat Cat Guest House in Sapa (Northwest Viet Nam, near China). If you sit here long enough, you will see every traveller who comes to Viet Nam. We spent our days watching the world go by and buying handicrafts from the Montaniard Villagers.
This artist came by the guest house and wanted to sketch Mel. We couldn't communicate very well. He spoke no English and our French was pretty limited, but we enjoyed his art and company. He said he had studied in Paris before the war.
We actually did leave the guest house once or twice. Here are some rice terraces in the valley below Sapa.
