On a walk outside the town of Hile, Nepal, we came upon this young man. The family was putting up corn for the winter. He was having a good time rolling in it.
The children of Nepal are beautiful. Here are a bunch of them greeting us with calls of "Namaste". The higher you raise your hands, the more respect you offer. As you can see they start working at a young age. The one on the left is carrying a basket. We saw kids this age carrying baskets full of BRICKS up mountainsides!!
Nepal has very few roads. Nearly all materials are delivered to towns on the backs of Porters. When you go trekking, a Porter will carry your packs. One Porter will carry the fully loaded packs of 5 people! On the ride to Kathmandu we saw children not much older than this carrying baskets of bricks up the mountain.
Since there are few roads, almost everything is carried. For some reason there were very few pack animals. Almost everything was carried by people.
Beautiful homes and flowers lined the roadways into Kathmandu. We had a fantastic ride up to Kathmandu. Along the way we saw loads of beautiful scenes like this and even on of those high dollar resorts at the top of the mountain.
We traded factory rolled cigarettes as favors for snapshots. This market was a bit off the beaten track so we soon became a hit. We came away with a dozen or so beautiful pictures. The women all wore colorful scarves, jewelry and clothes.
Sunset view of the Kathmandu valley from a small Monastery outside of Baktapur.
A guide told us there are more gods worshipped in Nepal than there are people living there. Everywhere we looked, colorful statues from 1 inch to several feet adorned corners, eaves, windows, etc.
Festival day in Baktapur, a city on the outskirts of Kathmandu known for it's wood carvings. There are many small towns surrounding Kathmandu with lots of history.
